MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dr. Charlotte Pegues, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Mississippi, is retiring.
The university shared the news Friday. They say they will start a national search for the position and hope to identify a new leader before the next academic year.
“Thank you to Dr. Pegues for her years of service,” Provost Noel Wilkin said in a statement shared with the campus.

Last September, Pegues was charged in an indictment with multiple counts of animal cruelty after officers in Lafayette County said they found dead and malnourished dogs at a home.
She was placed on leave by the university at that time. Her attorney denied she was guilty of the charges. The status of those charges was unclear Saturday.
